Finally, spring, and the start of a new racing season. A lot of roller and trainer miles over the winter replaced needed road miles, and the time has come to put them to use.
A few races have taken place, and a few Stark Velo members have saddled up and stretched their legs. So far, early results are encouraging.
Three members travelled to that state up north (Michigan) to race Barry-Roubaix, a 36 mile gravel road race. Racing on March 22nd over some slushy and difficult roads, with large entry categories, each one placed in the money. Pay outs went to the first five in each category. Scott Morman and Dave Jolin raced the single speed race, with Scott taking 2nd and Dave 5th. Bill Fletcher entered the 61+ race, finishing 5th, barely losing a bunch sprint for 3rd and 4th.
That same day, Jake Walters stayed closer to home, and raced the Mohican Cabins OMBC series mountain bike in Loudonville , Ohio. Jake moved up to the Pro/Expert category this year, and finished 5th in his class.
Bob Brnilovich travelled down south to McArthur, Ohio near Athens on March 30th to race the Lake Hope road race. This was Bob’s first race back from last year’s season ending crash, and finished a very respectable 5th place in the Mens 45+ race.
Early results are coming in from the April 19 event of the 4 weekend Race at the Lake series in Munroe Falls. Mike Minard dominated the Masters 35+ race, and finished first. Jim Yankush rode strong in the Masters 45+ race, and stood on the podium for third. Complete coverage will be in the June newsletter.
As we proceed into the season, the calendar is filling up, with at least one, and often two races available each weekend. As the results filter in, I’ll attempt to continue to keep you updated on the Stark Velo 2014 racing season.
