The early spring results are encouraging, indicating a promising 2014 racing season for Stark Velo members. Team work made the difference with several wins and high places. Individual effort was the deciding factor in several events.
Two team members are competing in the National Ultra Endurance Mountain Bike Series sponsored by Kenda. Dave Jolin ventured to Utah to race the series opener on March 15, the True Grit 100. Dave placed 8th in the Masters category. Scott Morman travelled to Tennessee for the second race of the series, the Cohutta100. Scott placed 20th in a field of 105 in the Masters Category. The next race on the schedule is the Mohican 100 in Loudonville, Ohio on May 31. Results will be posted upon completion.
Race #2 in the Race At The Lake series on April 26 had team mates Mike Minard and Rick Parr working together, with Mike taking the win, and Rick close behind in second in the Master 35+ race. The Master 45+ race had Joe Huth 11thand Robert Vogt Sr. 13th. Jake Walters took second place in the Category 5 race.
Race #3 in the RATL series on May 3rd had Mike Minard claiming his third win in as many races in the Master 35+ race. Chris Smith finished a respectable 8th in the same event. Jim Yankush got his first win of the year in the Master 45+ race, with Robert Vogt Sr. in 12th. Once again, Jake Walters finished second in the Category 5 race.
Racing again the next day, May 4th, Jake Walters is proving he is more than an outstanding mountain bike racer. Jake finished 6th in the Category 5 Cuyahoga Valley Road Race.
May 10th was the final race in the RATL series for 2014. Mike Minard was unable to complete sweeping his event due to being out of state on business. No problem, Stark Velo members took over where he left off. Rick Parr took a prime and first place in the Master 35+ race. Jim Yankush won a prime and placed second in the Master 45+ race. Working hard for their team mates, Bob Brnilovich and Joe Huthwere active at the front of the group, setting a high pace and doing some excellent lead outs for the primes and sprint finishes.
The Eastern Ohio Time Trial Series opener was May 18 in Deerfield, Ohio. JimYankush and Bob Brnilovich raced in the Men 50-59 category with Jim taking 3rdand Bob 4th.
The season is young, but our veteran racers seem to be in mid season form. As the season continues, look for more Stark Velo members competing, and more strong efforts with outstanding results.
