Racing has been limited because of extremely wet spring weather, races being cancelled due to lack of sponsorship and surprise up charges for course protection. Local racing has been very limited, making distant travel necessary if you planned to race. Several Stark Velo members raced different events, with mixed results.
Bob Brnilovich made the trip to Lexington, Ohio to race on the Mid Ohio Sports Car course the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Nice job by Bob, as he was able to take 2nd in the Men 45-54 division.
The following weekend, May31-June 1 had the Parr family travelling to Columbus,Ohio to visit family members, and do some racing. Saturday’s race was in downtown Westerville, Ohio. Rick raced two races, finishing 9th in the Masters 40-49 race, and 13th in the Cat 3 race. Gavin Parr finished 10th in the Jr. Men 9-18. Gavin was the youngest in his event, but still managed to beat two high school racers.
The Tour of Franklington was a road race held on the outskirts of Columbus. Rick raced to 13th in the Master 40-49 event. Gavin raced his first road race against riders closer to his age, finishing 4th in the Jr.Men 11-14 race. Evelyn Parr raced her first USAC event, and took 2nd in the Jr. Female. Congratulations to all the Parr family racers.
Wellston, Michigan was the site of the Lumberjack 100 mountain bike race on June 21. Dave Jolin and Scott Morman did a splendid job representing Stark Velo. Scott raced the Men’s Open race finishing 19th in a field of 177, 26th overall in a total field of 245. Dave stepped up on the podium, claiming 3rd of 42 in the Masters 50+ event, 37th overall of 245 riders. The race featured over 9,000 feet of climbing. Outstanding results!
Stark Velo will once again be hosting the annual Chapel Series at The Chapel in Green. For the first time since the series history, USAC will be sanctioning these races. Race dates are July 10,17,24,and 31. This is a closed course that is fun for racers, and very spectator friendly. Come on out to race or watch, everyone is welcome!
