Zoar Road Race
In memory of Bob Bachtel

The race is dedicated to the memory of Stark County Bicycle Club member Bob Bachtel. While competing in Calvin's Challenge on Saturday, May 1, Bob was struck by a motorist who crossed the yellow line to pass a group of cyclists. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Ohio Bicycle Federation in memory of Bob Bachtel.
The Bob Bachtel Memorial Ride will start before the Zoar Road Race. This is planned as an open ride for friends, family members and anyone who is not interested in racing, but would like to participate. More details will be provided soon.

Registration: Parking and registration are near the Zoar Tavern & Inn, 162 Main Street. Registration begins at 8:30 am and closes 15 minutes prior to start. USCF license must be presented for cat. 4 and above. Unlicensed riders may obtain a 1-day license for $5. All USCF racing rules apply. A CPSC-approved helmet is required at all times. Tandems, recumbents and aero-bars are not permitted. This race will proceed rain or shine. The promoter reserves the right to lengthen, shorten or modify, cancel and combine races and/or prize list if insufficient entries, severe weather, or other conditions outside of the promoter's control.
Register the day of the race, or pre-register by sending a signed 2004 rider release form (link in PDF) and entry fee to Michael Schiltz, 1433 Bellview Street NE, N. Canton, Ohio 44721. Advance registration must be postmarked no later than July 26. Make checks payable to the Stark Velo Cycling Team.
Directions: from I-77 take Exit-93 (Bolivar-Zoar). Follow SR 212 into Zoar (approx. 3 miles). Parking and Registration near the Zoar Tavern & Inn. Nearby accommodations include the Zoar Inn, and the Sleep Inn, which is located in SR-212 near I-77.

Course: Held on a scenic, well-paved 10-mile loop near Zoar, OH - a challenging circuit with two significant climbs (39x23 recommended) and a long, straight descent. The race will stage near the Zoar Tavern, and proceed neutral to the intersection of Dover-Zoar and Middle Run Rd., where the racing begins. The race will traverse, in a clockwise direction, the loop formed by Dover-Zoar Rd., Schneiders Crossing and Middle Run Rd. (see course map below). There are two significant climbs - one gradual climb on Dover-Zoar, and a steeper climb on Middle Run. Here is a link to the race profile, and individual profiles of the first and second climbs. The finish line is located on Middle Run Rd., a few kilometers after the top of the climb.
